While serving St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Winona, Pastor Von Rohr helped establish Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1866. He traveled from Winona to conduct services for German immigrants living in the area. Von Rohr is also accredited for playing a major role in Lutheranism in North America having served as Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod President from 1889-1908.
The Gemeindeblatt Kalendar (a Lutheran annual) for 1910 contains a tribute in German. It states in part:
He was a man of noble character with rich gifts and a truly loving heart. Few were as well-read as he, he had an especially deep, theological insight. If anyone possessed the fine art of distinguishing between law and gospel, it was he. He was very unpretentious, yet distinguished and noble. His disposition was always cordial, never dour, never distrustful. Himself, a true child of God, he loved children, and they loved him. In all his affairs he was humble and modest. A child could lead him.
